Our Students


What is the average age of OISE Sydney students?

Students range from their late 20s to their early 60s and the average age is 36.

Where do students come from?
Most of our students come from Europe with about 26% from Switzerland, 22% from France, 19% from Japan, 18% from Germany and the remainder coming from Italy, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Argentina, Russia and Chile.

Courses


How many students will be in my class?

The maximum number of students in a Quatorial class is 4, or if you choose a Tutorial programme you will be alone. In either case, you receive a high level of interaction and feedback with your peers and teacher.

How much progress will I make?
It is possible to progress one level in approximately 6 weeks on a Quatorial or Tutorial programme, depending on the student.

Will I receive a certificate at the end of my course?
Yes. All students receive a certificate and report from their tutors at the end of their programme, in a special certificate presentation ceremony.

What are the start dates?

You can start a new course any Monday of the year.


Can I study part time?
Yes. Most of our courses are full-time but it is also possible to enroll on a 'Morning Only' programme.

I don't know my level, how can I find out?
We will assess your level on your first day of lessons, but if you wish to complete a pre-course level assessment we can provide one for you and let you know the results.

Is there a materials fee?
No. All materials are included in the course fee.

What qualifications do your teachers have?
All teachers hold at least a first degree and a teaching certificate (CELTA or equivalent).

Do you arrange after class activities?

Yes. We arrange 3 social activities per week. These include visits to famous Sydney sights, museums and art galleries, wine or beer tasting, coastal walks, special exhibitions and festivals, lunch at the fish markets and Friday drinks.

Do I need a visa to study at OISE?
For courses of less than 12 weeks it is possible to study on a standard tourist visa. For courses of 12 weeks or more a student visa is required.

Accommodation


Can I upgrade my accommodation?

Yes, you can upgrade from 'standard' homestay accommodation to 'executive', which includes a private bathroom.

Can I change my accommodation if I am not happy with it?
Yes. If you are not happy with your homestay you can request to be moved. We require 2 weeks notice for any change.

Where will my homestay be?
Your homestay will be between 20-45 minutes from the school either by train, bus, ferry or foot. We aim to place students as close to school as possible and with good public transport links.

Changes and cancellations


Can I change my course while in the school?
Yes. We require at least one week's notice for any course changes.

Can I get a refund if I need to cancel my course or finish early?

Yes. If you inform us of your cancellation before the course start date, the school will retain the deposit. After your course has started, 10 days written notice must be given to the Principal. The cancellation fee is equivalent to 1 week's course fees. Please see our terms and conditions for more details.

Where is OISE Sydney located?

OISE Sydney is located in the centre of Sydney, within walking distance from Sydney's most famous sights, Sydney harbour, museums, art galleries, shopping centres and restaurants.

What public transport is near the school?
Sydney is a 5 minute walk from both Town Hall and Wynyard train stations as well as being walking distance from all major bus stations in the CBD. A ferry service also runs from Darling Harbour, just 10 minutes walk from the school.
